When you apply, you can choose to participate as a Book Club Member or a Finalist Judge.

BECOME A CBCA BOOK CLUB MEMBER:
For avid and fast readers who like free ebooks

CBCA Book Club Members are our first round of readers who identify the top books in each award category.

Members receive access to free submitted books in their chosen category and read entries throughout the judging period (February-October) with task of reading each submitted book.

After reading, CBCA Book Club Members select the top three books to advance as finalists in the Canadian Book Club Awards.

We host (non-mandatory) monthly virtual meet ups for Book Club Members who want to talk about what they’re reading.

Book Club Member Responsibilities:

  • Read submitted books within your selected category between February and October 2026.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback on each book.
  • Help select the finalists in your category.

BECOME A CBCA FINALIST JUDGE:
For readers who love judging books

CBCA Finalist Judges are readers from across Canada who help determine the winners of the Canadian Book Club Awards.

Once finalists are announced in November 2026, CBCA Finalist Judges are tasked with purchasing and reading the top three books in their selected genre, and cast their vote to determine the winning title.

CBCA Finalist Judges Responsibilities:

  • Choose the genre you’d like to judge.
  • Purchase (or borrow) and read the three finalist books between November 2026 and January 31, 2027.
  • Voting criteria is based on one simple question: Did I love this book?

  • Support the belief that great stories deserve recognition, regardless of publisher, genre, or sales numbers.


READERS MUST:

  • Be a Canadian resident.

  • Be willing to write thoughtful, honest reviews online about each finalist title.
  • Be a fun and open minded reader

Additional Requirements:

  • Submit a screenshot of a recent book review from Goodreads, Amazon, Kobo, Instagram, or another platform.
  • Commit to reading the submitted books in your selected category.
  • Read at least 20 minutes of each submitted title.
  • Keep all EPUB files and book materials confidential and do not share them.
  • Authors who submitted a title to the 2026 Canadian Book Club Awards are not eligible to participate as judges this year. Authors who submitted to previous years’ awards are welcome to apply.
